The Trojan horse virus carries CRISPR-AsCas12f1 to control bacterial wilt in plants

A research article titled "Trojan Horse Virus Carrying CRISPR-AsCas12f1 Controls Bacterial Wilt in Plants" was published in *mBio* by Professor Zheng Dehong from the State Key Laboratory of Subtropical Agriculture Bioresource Protection and Utilization and Guangxi University. Inspired by the ancient Greek fable of the Trojan Horse, the authors used filamentous bacteriophages as the "Trojan Horse" to infiltrate the enemy, using a miniature CRISPR-AsCas12f1 system as a weapon to target the hrpB gene, one of the pathogenic genes of Ralstonia solanacearum, reducing its pathogenicity and thus increasing the survival rate of susceptible plants. The engineered bacteriophage can also spread within the host bacteria, suppressing the proportion of wild-type strains.
